Overview

The Mastering the Boardroom workshop is specifically designed for seasoned board members seeking to further develop their knowledge on professional directorship matters, looking to take on more senior roles and who can enrich the sessions by sharing their experiences with their peers. Participants will walk away with tools they can share with their board(s) in order to help ensure sustainability and longevity despite any challenges they may face.

The Mastering the Boardroom workshop addresses two of the primary objectives of the GCC Board Director Institute:

  • To help build board member effectiveness and capabilities through the sharing of best practices and experiences.
  • To create a regional network of board members by providing venues and opportunities to network between regional board members, professional advisors and senior executives.

The workshop will focus on the following key areas:

  • Chairing the Board
  • Handling Disagreements and Building Concensus
  • The Control Environment
  • The Strategic Board
  • Monitoring Performance
  • Measuring Board effectiveness.

 

Faculty

Dr. Chris Pierce, Chief Executive Officer
Global Governance Services Ltd

Dr. Pierce is a Senior Training Consultant for the GCC BDI. He works with policy makers, directors and boards in Europe, Asia, Africa, the US and South America. Prior to becoming CEO, he was the Director of Professional Standards and Professional Development at the Institute of Directors (IoD) in the UK. He has also held senior management positions in the Overseas Development Administration, British Airways and Leeds Business School and has been an Honorary Visiting Professor of Corporate Governance at City University and a Visiting Fellow at Cranfield Management School.

Over the last fifteen years Chris has worked as an advisor to the boards of many listed companies, banks, sovereign wealth funds, stock exchanges and financial institutions around the World.

His qualifications include: an Economics degree, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, a Masters degree in Science, a Masters degree in Philosophy, an MBA and a PhD. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. In 2014 he was awarded the Bertin Prize in Sweden by the International Academy of Quality for his contribution to global corporate governance over the last decade.

 

Dr. Hans-Martin Stockmeier, Senior Partner
McKinsey&Company

Dr. Hans-Martin Stockmeier is a Director in McKinsey & Company’s Middle East Office. He joined McKinsey in 1991 Germany and transferred from Istanbul to the Middle East Office in 2003. Hans Martin is a leader of the European Banking Practice and co-leads the Financial Institutions practice in the Middle East.

Hans-Martin has worked extensively with financial institutions in the Europe, Asia and the Middle East. He has served clients in banking, insurance and capital markets. Hans-Martin has served a variety of capital market participants ranging from banks, asset managers, regulators and securities exchanges.

Hans-Martin holds under graduate degrees in economics from the University of Witten/Herdecke (Diploma) in Germany and Carleton University in Canada. Following a working period he completed his academic education with a Masters degree in Finance from the London School of Economics and a doctorate degree in financial economics from Humboldt University in Berlin.

Mastering the Boardroom is specifically designed for more seasoned board members with a minimum of 5 years’ experience, who have already completed the Foundations of Directorship workshop, and who are seeking to further develop their knowledge and professional development, and who can enrich the sessions by sharing their experiences with their peers.
