The aim of this course is to equip board directors and C Suite executives who have a good basic knowledge of finance with further tools and skills so that they may contribute more meaningfully to discussions and decisions when finance items are on the agenda.

This 1 day interactive workshop will cover:
• What to look for in financial statements
• Drivers of business – key metrics
• Assessing financial performance using ratios – comparison between companies
• Appraisal of capital intensive projects – concept of time value of money, making projections and working out the Net Profit Value

Facilitators

Bruneau Woomed, Managing Director, Financial Sense.

Bruneau has had a long career in the financial sector, more specifically in insurance and pensions, and is an actuary by profession. He is an experienced trainer in finance and actuarial science and is an accredited trainer in Corporate Governance. He is also a Master Trainer for Build your own Business for young entrepreneurs as well as being a Meta Coach and an NLP practitioner. He also lectures in Actuarial Analysis for Finance and Economics Masters students

 

Dirk Backhaus, Group Director Finance of the UAE-based Al Batha Group.

Prior to joining Al Batha, Dirk has held senior and executive management positions with German based electronics giant Siemens AG (1996 – 2008; incl. Corporate Controller for Africa, Near and Middle East & CIS as well as CFO for Siemens KSA) and KSA Tadawul listed Emaar The Economic City (Group CFO 2008 – 2010).

Dirk is a Chartered Director and Member the British Institute of Directors, a Chartered Manager and Fellow of the British Chartered Management Institute as well as a Certified Management Accountant and Member of the Australian Institute of Certified Management Accountants. Dirk currently serves on the Policy Committee of the European Confederation of Directors’ Associations’ where he represents the German Institute of Directors VARD.

In the past, Dirk has taught the Finance for Non-Finance Directors curriculum for the British IoD. He holds degrees from Oxford University (Postgraduate Diploma in Financial  Strategy) and Baden Wurttemberg’s State Cooperative University in Mannheim (Diplom-Betriebswirt).
