Overview

Business Families are significant contributors to the world’s economy. Developing and improving the corporate governance of a family business contributes to improved performance and access to finance while increasing the odds of survival through generations. The alignment of different interests leads to consensus harmony inside the family as well as the enterprise. The implementation of an effective governance structure, regulating rights and obligations, avoids misunderstandings and favours the alignment of interests. Corporate governance practices provide a means for ensuring sustained company performance and embedding the values of accountability and transparency in organizations. Developing and improving the corporate governance of a family business contributes to improved performance and access to finance while increasing the odds of survival through generations.

Program Outline

Designed specifically for family business owners, relatives and directors, GCC BDI Family Governance Program is a one-day learning and networking forum that aims to:

  • Delve into the fundamentals of family business governance, including the parameters of corporate governance methodology for family owned companies, the structure and functioning of the board and developing family governance structures and policies such as a family council and a family constitution.
  • Provide insights into leading practices that enable family businesses to professionalize the business and prepare for succession.

  • It clearly differentiates issues that concern specifically the management and the owners.

Faculty – Zayed Khoshaim 

Zeyad is the Managing Partner, Khoshaim & Associates and Partner, Allen & Overy. He is a New York & Saudi Arabian qualified lawyer who specializes in advising corporate multinationals in structuring and financing major projects, joint ventures, mergers, and acquisitions in the KSA. Since 2003, he has advised and led on some of Saudi Arabia’s most high profile energy, petrochemical & healthcare related projects. He is also actively engaged in advising leading commercial and investment banking firms in KSA.

 Faculty – Jane Valls

Jane is the Managing Director at GCC Board Directors Institute. She is an accredited Corporate Governance trainer with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Ethics Institute of South Africa.  Jane has held senior management and board positions with international companies and over 30 years’ experience in aviation, hospitality and ITC sectors.  Her other areas of expertise include: corporate governance, business ethics, leadership, consultancy and training, strategy and organizational development.
